Connecting with the Arts

Yeah for field trips! Today, Haley's trip was all about the arts. First up was the play "Ba Hum Bug!" We were so glad Scrooge could change his ways and alter Christmas yet to come. After a picnic at the park, the group continued on to the Ohr museum. The highlight of the visit here was when the kids entered the pottery barn and found they would be painting their own ceramic tiles. We can't wait to see what Haley's looks like when it's fired and glazed!

VOLCANOES!!

The third graders completed a special research project about volcanoes. Haley had to write a research report about a favorite volcano and built a visual display to go along with her report. She is very interested in Japan, so chose Mt. Fuji. Her model was a hit with the class...it was yummy! Jenna wanted to make a cake volcano, too. She named it Mt. Edible. They both had a great time building and decorating...such creative kids!

"If you never climb Mt. Fuji you are a fool, and if you climb Mt. Fuji more than once you are a crazy fool."

Mt. Edible...yum, yum!

Reading Fair

The girls both entered the school's Reading Fair. They made display boards highlighting the main elements of a favorite book, and decorated it to encourage others to read, too. They had the best time putting them together, cutting and gluing and singing silly songs together. Their efforts and enthusiasm paid off; both won ribbons! Way to go!

Jenna's favorite book is Germs! Germs! Germs!

Haley is a Narnia fan...she did her project about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

When can we get a puppy?

Jenna has been asking that question since I don't know when. Now, don't get any funny ideas looking at these photos...the dog was a LOANER. We doggie-sat for the weekend for a relative. Cute dog. Kids fought over whose bed it could sleep on. Got lots of comments while out walking her. Henry kept trying to sneak her meat scraps. She followed me around adoringly like a...well, like a lost puppy. But, no, no dog for us. We'll just borrow her whenever we need a pet fix.

Down on the Farm

What a beautiful day to spend outside! The first grade took a field trip to Seward Farm, and I was lucky enough to tag along with my little sweetheart of a girl. We enjoyed a hayride, made our way through a corn maze, rode the "cow-train," and feed the farm animals. A picnic under the trees rounded out the day before heading back to school. Jenna hated to leave...we'll have to go again next year and maybe bring dad and sister along to join the fun!
